Background
Kamala Khan means a lot to me. I am a South Asian Desi Muslim obsessed with superheroes my whole life, just like Kamala. I didn't grow up seeing representation of myself, so when Marvel created a brown girl Muslim superhero and gave her a solo series and she was the same age as me, I couldn't believe it! There have been many legacy characters created for diversity, but they never lasted. Kamala did, and I grew up with her. That #1 issue was my life in a comic.
When my incredible friend Lady Toxie invited me to accompany her at the LA premiere of the Ms. Marvel Disney+ show, it was the perfect opportunity to finally cosplay Kamala. I wanted to recreate Adrian Alphona's original iteration of her. I challenged myself to make the costume in 24 hours and post the process to TikTok; the videos (1)(2) ended up pretty successful!
However, due to this limitation, I wasn’t completely happy with how the final product came out, so I remade the costume over time until it became the final iteration you see today. I documented the process for YouTube. I also made a casual version of her look from the cover of No Normal, and made several resources for both costumes available to download for free including the mask template and 3D model of her كمالا bracelet.

I contributed to the official Marvel guide book Cosplay the Marvel Way with tutorials for this costume and am featured on the cover!
